The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on figures who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation regulating US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
