The Animated Series' Showrunner Is Aware of Fans' Second Season Bingo Cards — With Some Positive Updates
The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season introduces a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
