The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Frustration Over Size Modifications

Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.

This online marketplace has altered its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel failing to inform every member regarding the update.

Social Media Backlash

Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.

Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.

The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.

Measurement Approach Updates

Previously, the measurements included one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

User Experiences

One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

A different member, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.

Required Changes

Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she explained.

Platform Context

The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
